Effective March 11, 2020

1. Our Commitment To Privacy:

Your privacy is important to us. To better protect your privacy we provide this Privacy Policy explaining our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way your personally identifiable information ("PII") is collected and used. To make this Privacy Policy easy to find, we make a link to the full policy available on our homepage www.cmnc.org and at every point where PII may be requested.

If you have any concerns about providing PII to us or having your PII used in any manner permitted in this Privacy Policy, you should not provide your PII to the website, become a member of CMNC, or participate in our workshops. If you have already provided your PII to the CMNC website and do not wish to have it used as described, you should contact us via our CMNC contact form or 510-828-4148 and we will remove your PII.

Please also review the Terms of Use, which also govern your use of this website and any services we provide. Your use of the CMNC website and/or any services, including the CMNC Newsgroup "CMNClist", constitutes acceptance of both this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use.

3. The Way We Use Information:

3.1. Your Online Profile

An Online Profile is created when you register as a user on the CMNC website and can be accessed by clicking on "Member Account". You may edit your Online Profile at any time. Your Online Profile is not displayed to other CMNC users or to the public. The PII you have provided when registering is used by CMNC to communicate with you and to make workshop assignments. You will receive announcements for each workshop, but may unsubscribe from announcements via our CMNC contact form or 510-828-4148.

When you register as a user of the CMNC website, you will be offered the opportunity to join the CMNC Newsgroup "CMNClist", a moderated Google Group. You can also join this Newsgroup at any time by checking a box on your online profile. If you check this box, you consent to the use of your email address for receiving CMNClist posts. Instructions for unsubscribing to the Newsgroup can be found at the end of any post. Users of the CMNClist are solely responsible for the content of messages they post. Users should be aware that when they voluntarily disclose personal information (e.g., user name, e-mail address, phone number) on the CMNClist or elsewhere, that information can be collected and used by others and may result in unsolicited messages from other people. You are responsible for the personal information you choose to submit in these instances. For example, if you list your name and email address in a forum posting or membership directory, that information is public. Please take care when using these features.

3.2. Membership

Once you have registered as a user of the CMNC website, you will be offered an opportunity to become a dues-paying Member of CMNC. If you become a Member, some of the PII you provide in your online membership application will appear in the CMNC Membership Directory (“Directory”) for as long as you continue to pay dues. Your Directory entry will include your name, instrument(s) you play, city, email address, telephone numbers, and your availability to play chamber music. The Directory may be produced as a printed book or an electronic file. CMNC distributes the Directory to other CMNC Members, who are under no obligation to protect your privacy.

As a CMNC Member you will be eligible to receive the CMNC newsletter, The Chamber Musician, which we presently intend to distribute three times a year. A link will be sent to the email address on your Online Profile, or a copy to your home address via US mail if you do not have an email address. If you do not wish to receive The Chamber Musician, you should not become a CMNC Member.

3.3. Workshops

We use the PII you provide when you apply to participate in a CMNC workshop to communicate with you about the workshop, to make appropriate workshop assignments, to arrange for financial aid if requested, and to make arrangements to meet any special needs.

In addition, we share your PII with other workshop participants in the following ways:

  • Your name and instrument are shared with the members of your assigned group prior to the workshop.
  • Your contact information (excluding street address) is included in a workshop roster distributed by print, email and online prior to the workshop.
  • Your name, instrument and workshop assignment are posted at the workshop.

3.4. Evaluations

We use the information you provide about someone else only to improve our ability to make appropriate playing assignments and otherwise to improve our workshops.

We do not disclose to anyone the evaluation information you provided or the fact that you have submitted an evaluation. Any evaluation information we may receive concerning your participation in the workshop will remain confidential and be used only for purposes of improving the workshop by those Board members who need to know.

We may disclose the information described in this paragraph to third parties with a need to know (such as ACMP for grant purposes) only after all individual identifiers have been removed.

3.5. Sharing PII

We do not share the PII that you provide online with outside parties except as described in this Privacy Policy or as may be required by law. PII is never sold or leased to any third parties.

3.6. Links to External Sites and Social Media

CMNC is not responsible for the content or practices of third party websites and social media sites that may be linked to the website. CMNC is also not responsible for any information that you might share with such linked websites and social media sites. You should refer to each such site’s respective privacy policy and practices prior to disclosing any such information.

4. Our Commitment To Data Security:

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. We ask that you do your part to keep your data secure by keeping your username and password confidential and not sharing it with others.

5. Online Payments:

CMNC does not accept online credit card payments. Online payments may however be made via PayPal. When PayPal is used to pay for membership dues, workshop fees or donations, CMNC receives the money without seeing credit/debit card or bank account information. PII submitted to PayPal is subject only to the PayPal privacy policy found at https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/privacy-full

6. California Online Privacy Protection Act "Do Not Track" Notice

California law permits California residents to request from companies conducting business in California a list of third parties to which the company has disclosed personally identifiable information during the preceding year for direct marketing purposes as well as other details regarding types of information collected and how it is used. CMNC has not and will not share your personally identifiable information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes; accordingly, it will not maintain such a list of third parties. If you are a resident of California and want additional information concerning how CMNC does not share your personally identifiable information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes, or additional details regarding information that is collected, you may contact us as provided below in Section 7 of this Privacy Policy.

Do Not Track ("DNT") is a mechanism allowing Internet users to control the tracking of their online activities across websites. Various browsers offer a DNT option that sends a signal to websites visited by the browser user about the user's DNT preference.

The California Online Privacy Protection Act requires website operators like CMNC to disclose how CMNC responds to DNT signals and whether third parties collect PII about users when they visit the CMNC website.

CMNC currently does not respond to DNT signals in browsers because it doesn't track individual users across the web. CMNC does not permit anyone to collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites when you use the CMNC website.

We use non-identifying and aggregate information to better design our website, but we do not share this information with anyone. We use cookies only to manage logins.

7. Managing Your Information:

You can access and update your PII by logging in to the website, once you have registered. To delete your PII, contact us via our CMNC contact form or 510-828-4148 to request that your information be deleted. Support is available via our CMNC contact form or 510-828-4148. To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access.

We retain the PII you provide while your account is in existence and for a reasonable period of time after account closure as may be required by law. We generally delete closed account information and de-personalize any logs or other backup information within 30 days of account closure.

8. Privacy Policy Changes

We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes in the way we treat your PII we will provide notice to you by email, in a workshop announcement, and/or on the CMNC website. You should review the changes carefully. If you agree to the changes, simply continue to use our services. If you object to any of the changes and you no longer wish to use the CMNC website, please contact us via our CMNC contact form or 510-828-4148 to close your account.

The current version of CMNC's Website Privacy Policy applies to all information that CMNC has about you and your account. Using the CMNC website after a notice of changes has been communicated to you means you consent to the changes.

How To Contact Us:

Should you have other questions or concerns about these privacy policies, please send us an email via our CMNC contact form or call us at 510-828-4148.
