If You Must Pay By Check

Indications Your Form and PayPal Payment Were Received

CMNC now strongly encourages you to pay your workshop fees and membership dues through PayPal, a secure online payment service which accepts a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card, or a Discover or American Express credit card.

  • CMNC receives your payment, but does not see your card information. 
  • PayPal is our only means of accepting a card payment.
  • There is no extra cost to you to use PayPal.

Practice email safety:

  • Do not click on a link in an email claiming to come from PayPal.
  • If it does not contain your first and last names, it is not from PayPal
  • Forward the email to spoof@paypal.com for verification.
  • See PayPal's Security Tips for more information
  • If you ever have questions concerning your PayPal account, go to the www.paypal.com web site and then access your account.

PayPal tips

PayPal works well for most people, but as with most computer-based endeavors, accuracy and certain details are important:

  • While you are reading this page, you are still on the CMNC web site.
  • After you click the Add to Cart button (or the View Cart button), you will get to the PayPal web site.
  • CMNC has no control over PayPal's account, password, or credit card requirements.
  • After you get to the PayPal web site, check that your browser's window has remained maximized -- to ensure you can see the necessary scroll bars and PayPal buttons on the right.
  • cookies must be enabled and not blocked by your firewall
  • Javascript (active content or active scripting) must be enabled.
  • Accuracy: email address: correct and with no spaces
  • credit/debit card number: also correct and with no spaces
  • name, address, phone, and expiration date must all agree with your card issuer's data
  • PayPal account info must be up-to-date, including card's expiration date
  • If you have problems updating the expiration date, try one or more of these:
    • Remove the card from the account and then add the card with the new expiration date.
    • Log-in separately to PayPal, update, and then use the link on the CMNC home page to "Make a ... Payment..."
  • If you are having problems creating or using a PayPal account.
    • You can use PayPal without the account, at least for the first few times:
    • After clicking on "Proceed to Checkout" -- fill in "Pay with Credit Card..." and click on "Review Order and Continue" (left column) -- instead of logging in with "Already Have a PayPal Account" (right column)

Less common items to keep in mind:

  • PayPal's "Security Check" (if present, it has you type in the characters you see in the box on the right) is their way of verifying you are a real person (and not a computerized robot flooding their system with meaningless entries)
  • Firefox users: if you do not see PayPal buttons, you need to allow images which do not originate from CMNC:
    • Tools > Options > Content > 
      • check Load Images
      • (older versions): uncheck for the originating web site only -- because the button images come from PayPal.
  • Netscape users:
    • you may need to allow images which do not originate from CMNC:
      • Tools > Options > Site Controls >
        • check Allow images to be displayed,
        • uncheck From originating site only -- because the button images come from PayPal.
    • One user succeeded with Internet Explorer after Netscape failed to show amounts on the PayPal site.
  • Your firewall may prevent access to PayPal.
  • Foreign credit card users: If PayPal doesn't accept your card, please create an account using the PayPal site for your country: go to paypal.com; at the bottom of its home page, click on Worldwide. After you have created the account, PayPal in the U.S. should accept your card.
  • If you have made more than one attempt to use PayPal, you may accumulate more than 1 payment for the same item.  To reduce to 1, change Qty to 1 and click Update Cart.
  • Similarly, if the wrong item is listed, click in the Remove box and then click Update Cart
  • If the name on the credit card or the check is substantially different from your applicant name, please tell us by email at mail@cmnc.org or by calling the CMNC Message Phone:  510-828-4148.
If you experience problems using PayPal, and all the above details are correct:
  • please call CMNC's Message Phone for help: 510-828-4148
  • Please use our PayPal Problems Questionnaire.  It is the most convenient way to explain your problems, and it contains all solutions we've found.
  • Please try at least twice, using one of the links on our home page to "Make a Membership Payment..." or "Make a Workshop Payment..."
    • Glitches happen -- your next try might be successful
    • Sometimes closing your browser and opening it again gets rid of the glitch
  • PayPal is our only means of accepting a card payment
  • If you must pay by check

    • you may write one check for everything: workshop and/or membership
    • make it payable to CMNC
    • mail it to

If you were unable to submit a Membership web form, please use a print form

         

Indications your form and PayPal payment were received:

  • You see the payment page with the PayPal buttons about a minute after you click the Workshop or Membership application form's Submit button
  • That payment page also shows all the entries you made in the application form
  • You receive an email from mail@cmnc.org acknowledging your application
  • If you complete payment through PayPal, you receive an emailed receipt from PayPal
  • The 2 emails described above should arrive within minutes of your submissions

If any of these items does not occur, please send an inquiry to webmaster@cmnc.org

Various aspects of your application and payment are managed by at least 3 different people, and we're easily confused.  You will help us enormously if your application selections and your payments match.

We must receive your payment for your application to be considered complete.

If you submit the application and then realize changes are needed, please submit the application again -- with your changes.
